The Royal Family braces for another royal wedding as Prince William’s inconspicuous relative announces engagement

After a quiet stretch on the royal wedding front, fans of the British monarchy have reason to celebrate once again. Over the weekend, Lady Marina Windsor — a more private, lesser-known relative of Princes William and Harry — revealed some joyful news: she’s engaged!

On June 8th, Lady Marina took to Instagram to share a glowing photo with her fiancé, Nico Macaulay, proudly displaying a stunning princess-cut engagement ring. The jewel appears to feature a striking onyx centerpiece surrounded by delicate diamonds — understated yet elegant, just like the bride-to-be. Her caption was simple but heartfelt: “Very happy!”

While Lady Marina may not be a household name, she shares royal lineage as the granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, making her a third cousin to William and Harry. And though she has occasionally appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony for royal events, she isn’t considered a working royal — which means she tends to fly under the radar.

Marina and Nico, who have reportedly been together for two years, haven’t shared when they plan to tie the knot. Still, the online celebration has already begun, with relatives jumping in to congratulate the couple. Her sister, Lady Amelia Windsor — a model in her own right — chimed in enthusiastically with a “Yippeeee!” Meanwhile, their brother Edward Windsor jokingly wrote, “So the hazing begins,” adding a sibling’s cheeky touch to the occasion.

Other family members also sent their love: cousins Zenouska Mowatt and Flora Vesterberg left sweet, excited messages in the comments. And for followers who have kept up with Marina’s quieter presence over the years, the engagement comes after she recently shared travel highlights from a trip to Ireland.

Now 32, Lady Marina is a philanthropic executive at The Big Give, a charity-focused organization that funds nonprofits. Her fiancé, Macaulay, graduated from Newcastle University and currently works in cloud security.

One intriguing historical note: Marina was once 25th in line to the throne, but following her conversion to Catholicism in 2008, she became ineligible for succession under the royal rules still in effect. Even so, she has remained a recognizable (if quieter) part of the extended royal family.

While her upcoming wedding might not rival the grandeur of William and Kate’s 2011 celebration or Harry and Meghan’s 2018 nuptials, it’s sure to draw attention from those who love modern royal stories — especially ones that take place slightly off-center stage.

Stay tuned: it’ll be interesting to see which royals make the guest list.
