Princess Kate Set to Play Major Role in ‘Massaging’ Trump’s ‘Ego’ During State Visit

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were originally scheduled for their second state visit to the UK from September 17 to 19.

However, due to changes in their busy schedules, they will now arrive a day earlier and depart on September 18.

During the visit, Kate Middleton is expected to play a significant role. On September 17, she will join Prince William in greeting the presidential couple, a presence described by commentators as the “icing on the cake.”

Arrival Plans at Windsor Castle

On the first day, the Trumps will be formally welcomed on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla by Warren A. Stephens, the US Ambassador to the UK, and Henry Hood, the Lord-in-Waiting. According to HELLO!, the couple will not attend public events that evening but will stay overnight at Windsor Castle. Their departure will follow an engagement at Chequers.

On September 17, King Charles and Queen Camilla will officially welcome the couple with a royal salute, fired from both the east lawn of Windsor Castle and the Tower of London. A carriage procession through the Windsor estate will follow.

Kate Middleton’s Central Role

Royal commentator Jennie Bond emphasized Middleton’s importance during the visit, telling The Mirror: “The icing on the cake for Donald Trump would, of course, be the presence of the Princess of Wales at some of the events and at the state dinner.”

Bond also suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be mindful of their diplomatic responsibilities. She added, “I’m sure both William and Catherine recognize the importance of massaging the President’s ego, and they will play as prominent a part as possible. It’s what the monarch and his senior working royals must do. It’s their job and their duty, and they will do it well.”

Meeting Between Melania and Kate

As part of the program, Middleton is scheduled to meet Melania at Frogmore Gardens for what is being referred to as their “secret squirrel” mission. There, they will join Dwayne Fields, Chief Scout of the Scouts Association, where Kate serves as patron. Together, they will meet children involved in the Scouts’ Squirrels programme and learn how participants can earn a nature-related badge.

The Palace has confirmed that Donald and Melania will be staying at Windsor Castle during their entire visit.

Palace Concerns Over Trump’s Behavior

This trip marks only the second time Donald Trump has been extended such an invitation, a rare honor for an American president. Yet, his arrival has reportedly stirred unease within the Palace.

A civil servant speaking to The Daily Beast revealed King Charles is “very concerned” Trump might use the visit as an opportunity to make an anti-immigration speech. They added, “Of course, he [Trump] will make a speech and propose toasts at the banquet in his honor… The one group of people Trump seems to respect is the British royal family, so we will just have to hope for the best.”
