Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to remain deeply cautious of Prince Harry following his recent return to the UK for several charity events, according to a royal commentator.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales view Harry with “extreme suspicion” due to his history of making private royal conversations public.
“Extreme Suspicion” From the Waleses
The Duke of Sussex spent four days in the UK this week, taking part in a number of charitable engagements, including the WellChild Awards and a Diana Award event.
During his stay, Harry also met privately with his father, King Charles, at Clarence House while the monarch was in London. However, reports indicate there were no plans for him to see William or Kate during the visit.
Speaking to the Express, Mr Fitzwilliams explained why reconciliation between the brothers appears so unlikely at present.
“I think William and Catherine will, rightly, regard Harry with extreme suspicion,” he said. “As will the king.”
He pointed to Harry’s decision to reveal details of private family discussions in interviews and in his 2023 memoir Spare, suggesting that these disclosures have made William and Kate hesitant to trust him again.
Reconciliation Remains Difficult
Mr Fitzwilliams admitted that a reconciliation would be “desirable,” especially given King Charles’s ongoing cancer treatment, but stressed that it would require significant changes from Harry and Meghan.
“They really have to change if they do want to reconcile, something which is obviously desirable, especially when there is illness in the family,” he said. “But it may not actually happen.”
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle stayed in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, while Harry made the trip alone.
Harry Enjoys His Time Back in Britain
Despite tensions with his family, a spokesperson for Harry said he thoroughly enjoyed his time in the UK.
“He’s obviously loved being back in the UK, catching up with old friends, colleagues, and just generally being able to support the incredible work of the causes that mean so much to him,” the spokesperson told PEOPLE.
Harry himself appeared upbeat after meeting Charles, describing his father as “great” when asked about their reunion.
Moving Forward
For now, Harry’s visit seems to have helped strengthen his bond with his father. But with William and Kate reportedly keeping their distance, full family reconciliation remains elusive.
