President Donald Trump found himself in an unexpected comedic moment on Friday when a boom microphone accidentally hit him in the face.
The incident occurred while the 78-year-old president was answering reporters’ questions at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
As Trump spoke, the microphone—covered with a fuzzy windscreen often called a “dead cat” in the industry—brushed against his mouth and slid across his face. Instinctively, he leaned back, eyes closing to avoid further contact.
His immediate reaction was one of surprise and mild irritation, as he shot a glance at the reporter responsible before raising his eyebrows.
As the microphone was quickly pulled away, Trump couldn’t resist making a joke about the moment.
“She just made television tonight. She just became a big story tonight,” he quipped, seemingly referring to the reporter behind the mic mishap.
Still chuckling, he turned to someone off-camera and asked, “Did you see that?” before continuing to take questions and eventually boarding Air Force One.
Social Media Reactions
Once footage of the moment went viral on X, users had plenty to say.
“That look after the incident,” one person tweeted, referencing Trump’s side-eye.
“Omg, I bet the person holding the microphone was super embarrassed,” another wrote, while a third added, “Her life will change forever after this unfortunate decision. She will find out that actions have consequences.”
However, some believed the mic hit was intentional, with a few even calling for action against the reporter.
“She needs to be arrested! It was on purpose,” one user wrote, while another echoed, “Arrest her NOW.”
“That looked deliberate,” someone else claimed, while another person speculated, “Secret Service better tighten up. Why wouldn’t this be a possible dry run for something more serious… chemical or germ-related?”
Another Awkward Moment Before Takeoff
Just before the microphone incident, Trump had another minor misstep—this time on the steps of Marine One.
While assisting X, the four-year-old son of Tesla and DOGE chief Elon Musk, onto the helicopter, Trump’s right foot briefly caught on the first step. However, he quickly regained his balance and continued up the stairs without issue.
Despite these small mishaps, the president stuck to his schedule, once again proving he can handle unexpected hits—whether from political opponents or an unpredictable microphone.
