Meghan Markle Steps Out for Lunch with Serena Williams, Sparking Discussion

Meghan Markle looked radiant as she enjoyed a lunch outing with her close friend, Serena Williams.

The Duchess of Sussex and the retired tennis champion were spotted arm in arm as they exited Tre Lune, a popular Italian restaurant in Montecito, California, on Saturday.

Both seemed to be in high spirits, even stopping to warmly embrace the restaurant’s owner, Gene Montesano, and his wife before heading off.

The Duchess of Sussex was all smiles during the outing.

Markle, 43, opted for a stylish blue pinstripe button-down shirt paired with matching trousers, while Williams, also 43, stunned in a vibrant red long-sleeved dress.

On Saturday, the Suits alum took to Instagram to post a heartwarming video of the 23-time Grand Slam champion spending quality time with her 3-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet.

The adorable clip captured Williams sitting on the floor, enjoying a game of Candy Land with the little one.

Markle greeted the eatery’s owner, Gene Montesano.
The “Suits” alum then rejoined Williams.

“When the aunties come to play and celebrate! Love you @serenawilliams,” Markle wrote alongside the clip, which featured Bill Withers’ 1977 hit Lovely Day as the background music.

She also shared a snapshot of Wyn Beauty’s founder with Lilibet, captioning it: “3 days until the party begins. All are invited @netflix.”

The former actress was hinting at the launch of her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which premiered on Tuesday.

Markle and Williams have been friends for years.

Markle recently shared a photo of herself hugging Williams.

The two have reportedly been close friends since 2010, with the tennis star previously mentioning that they have supported each other “a lot” throughout the years.

Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, were also among the guests at Markle’s royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018—an event she described as “historic.”

“The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that’s what happened,” she told Australian talk show The Project in September 2018.

Markle and Harry, now 40, moved to California in 2020 after stepping away from their roles as senior royals.

The couple bought a $14.65 million estate in Montecito, where they now reside with their daughter Lilibet and their 5-year-old son, Prince Archie.
