Her rare and emotional revelation quickly sparked a wave of support online, as listeners took to social media to express their compassion.

One person wrote: “Be kind to everyone. No one knows the things they are dealing with, ever.”

In a 2020 essay published by The New York Times, Meghan Markle shared that she suffered a miscarriage with her second child after experiencing a “sharp cramp” while changing her son Archie’s diaper in July of that year.

She remembered suddenly feeling unwell at their home in Los Angeles before being taken to the hospital.

Markle later opened up about the experience during an episode of her podcast, in a conversation with Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code, who has also gone through miscarriages.

Markle said: “I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced, and I think in some parallel way, you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for, and to be able to be okay at a certain point to let something go, something that you planned to love for a long time.”

Saujani, touched by Markle’s words, responded: “I feel like you’re reading my diary, that’s really insightful.”

Prince Harry also opened up about the miscarriage in his memoir ‘Spare.’

He shared that both he and Meghan Markle “both wept” and that he “felt totally hopeless” as they left the hospital with their “unborn child.”

“A tiny package,” Prince Harry wrote. “We went to a place, a secret place only we knew.

“Under a spreading banyan tree, while Meg wept, I dug a hole with my hands and set the tiny package softly in the ground.”

Markle’s reflection on this painful chapter comes shortly after the release of the first episode of her podcast, where she disclosed that she faced a “huge medical scare” following the birth of her child.

The Duchess and her podcast guest, Whitney Wolfe Herd—founder of the dating app Bumble—opened up about their “very similar experiences” dealing with postpartum preeclampsia.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine soon after childbirth.”

It’s a condition that needs immediate medical attention, as ignoring it can lead to seizures and other serious health risks.

“The world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly,” Markle said. “And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people – mostly for your children – but those things are huge medical scares.”
