Kate Middleton’s tragic admission when asked about meeting Prince Harry’s daughter Lilibet

The Princess of Wales once made a poignant admission when she was asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, Princess Lilibet.

Lilibet’s Birth and Family Circumstances

Princess Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on 4 June 2021 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. Her arrival came just one year after Prince Harry and Meghan stepped away from senior royal roles and settled in the United States.

Following their relocation, the couple participated in a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they discussed alleged mistreatment—particularly toward Meghan—by both the royal institution and the media.

Tensions Revealed in Oprah Interview

During the interview, Meghan claimed that an emotional disagreement over bridesmaid dresses had caused her to cry, stating: “A few days before the wedding [Kate] was upset about the flower girl dresses and it made me cry.” She added that Kate later apologised.

Meghan also opened up about her mental health struggles, explaining: “When I joined that family, that was the last time until we came here that I saw my passport, my driver’s licence, my keys, all that gets turned over.” She went on to say her emotional state became so serious that she “didn’t want to be alive any more” and that when she asked for help, she was told it “wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

Kate’s Reaction to Her New Niece

Amid ongoing tensions, Kate was asked shortly after Lilibet’s birth if she had any words for her new niece. A reporter asked: “Do you have any wishes for your new niece Lilibet?”

The Princess of Wales responded warmly: “Oh, I wish her all the very best.” She added: “I can’t wait to meet her because we haven’t yet — met her yet. So, hopefully, that’ll be soon.”

When asked if she had ever FaceTimed with Lilibet, Kate simply replied: “No, I haven’t. No.”

Public Response to Kate’s Reply

Kate received widespread praise for her grace under pressure, particularly given the sensitivity surrounding the family situation and the unexpected nature of the question.

One person commented: “She wasn’t ready to answer that question but she handled perfectly.” Another wrote: “I felt sorry for Catherine that they even asked her that. Perfectly handled by Catherine though.”

It remains unclear whether Prince William and the Princess of Wales have ever met Princess Lilibet in person. However, it is believed that King Charles met his granddaughter during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.
