Big overseas trip announced for Princess Anne and husband Sir Timothy Laurence

Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, are set to travel to Australia and Singapore next month, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The four-day royal tour, running from November 8 to 13, will commemorate the centenary of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, of which the Princess Royal serves as Colonel-in-Chief.

As her visit coincides with Remembrance Day, Princess Anne will undertake a series of military and commemorative engagements in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. She is also expected to lay a wreath at the Anzac Memorial in her role as President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Following the Australian leg of the trip, the Princess and Sir Timothy will spend two days in Singapore at the request of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. There, they will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and visit the Kranji War Memorial, the Airbus Asia Training Centre, and Rolls-Royce’s Seletar campus. Their visit will also mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Singapore.

Princess Anne, 75, is widely regarded as the hardest-working member of the royal family. She has visited both nations on multiple occasions, including more than 20 trips to Australia. Her most recent visit there was in 2022 for a three-day engagement in Sydney, while her last trip to Singapore took place in November 2016.

News of her upcoming tour follows recent remarks by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who reiterated his country’s open invitation to the royal family. During a private audience with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral Castle last month, the Prime Minister praised the King’s “strong engagement” with Australia and expressed hope that the Prince and Princess of Wales might also visit soon.

“There’s a standing invitation that the royal family are always welcome in Australia,” Albanese said, adding: “It was wonderful to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla recently, and we are hopeful that Prince William and Princess Catherine will be able to visit in the near future.”

So far, Buckingham Palace has not announced any plans for a visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales.
