The Sad Passing of A Beloved Actress of ‘Grease’

On May 2, the world lost a beloved actress, Susan Buckner, at the age of 72. Many of us remember her for her iconic role as Patty Simcox, the cheerful cheerleader in the cult classic movie Grease, alongside Olivia Newton-John.

According to a statement from Buckner’s family, she passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Her daughter, Samantha Mansfield, described her as not only a mother but also her best friend, and expressed how her light will be forever missed.

Before her acting career, Buckner enjoyed success as a pageant queen. She was crowned Miss Washington in 1971 and went on to compete in the Miss America pageant, showcasing her grace and talent, as reported by Deadline.

Following her pageant days, Buckner was part of The Golddiggers, an all-female singing and dancing group featured on The Dean Martin Show. Her skills shone through as she entertained audiences with her remarkable performances.

As the years went by, Buckner dedicated herself to the next generation of actors. She became a director for the children’s theater at a Florida elementary school and also taught dance at a gym in Coral Gables. Her passion for the arts extended beyond her own career, inspiring and nurturing young talent.

While her cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, one thing is certain: Susan Buckner’s legacy lives on. She is survived by her two children, Samantha and Adam, four grandchildren, and her partner, Al. Her infectious energy and memorable performances will continue to bring joy to audiences for generations to come.
