Prince William made a surprise appearance on Dancing with the Stars to show his support for Robert Irwin, the 21-year-old conservationist and TV personality, son of the late Steve Irwin. During Tuesday’s episode, William recorded a special video message for Robert as he prepared for his foxtrot with professional dance partner Witney Carson.
In the message, William wished him “the best of luck” and encouraged Witney to “get him in as much glitter as you can.” He added, “You’ve got a seriously good chance of winning it, so the best of luck on the show.” Robert said the message meant “the absolute world” to him, noting, “We are doing this dance for Bindi and we are doing this dance for Prince William, so let’s not mess this up.”
A Strong Bond Rooted in Conservation

Prince William and Robert Irwin have developed a close relationship through their shared passion for conservation. The pair first connected in a 2021 interview hosted by Australia Zoo, discussing climate change and The Earthshot Prize, William’s environmental initiative launched in 2020 to mobilize a decade of action to repair the planet.
After a meeting in South Africa last year, Robert praised William’s dedication and approachability. “He is a true environmental hero, and working with him has been a great privilege,” Robert said. “Plus, he’s just a really, really, really good guy.”
Tuesday wasn’t the first time William made a surprise cameo for Robert. In June, the prince left a message on BBC Radio 2, highlighting Robert’s talent and playful energy. Reflecting on their friendship, Robert added, “I talk to him about animals, and he is on it. He knows exactly what’s going on. In most conversations I have with His Royal Highness, I learn something. It’s this genuine sense of passion. I love that passion. Like that’s what I seek. I seek out people that feel like kindred spirits, you know? So it’s really awesome. Really is.”
